Topics covered will include:

  • Measure and Grade Logs
  • Types of Mills
  • Sawing Patterns
  • Drying Lumber/Measuring Moisture
  • Measure and Grade Lumber
  • Grain Figure
  • Selecting Lumber for your project

We will also invite all students taking this class to visit Don’s mill, kiln, and shop with the Western PA Woodworking club on Saturday October 12th. The club will first meet at Don’s sawmill for a tour and demo of his 36″ band sawmill. A short drive away is Don’s Kiln and shop, where he’ll talk further about how he built his kiln and how he uses it. Don will undoubtedly have plenty of lumber available for purchase should you be interested.
