In his first appearance at the Back Channel School, Fine Woodworking contributing editor and local furniture maker Mike Korsak will discuss the fundamentals of setting up a woodworking shop. Mike will begin with a discussion on the specifics of how he renovated an existing 2-car garage to create a snug, well-lit workshop, including detailing for energy efficiency, heating and cooling and finishing details.
Mike will then speak more generally about things to consider when setting up one’s own shop, such as machinery selection, machinery layout, workbenches, storage, dust collection, electric service and lighting. Following a brief question and answer period, all participants are invited and encouraged to travel to Mike’s workshop near Hartwood Acres county park in Fox Chapel for a brief tour and continued question and answer session.
